Lost: There’s No Place Like Home, Part 2 & 3
Lost’s fourth season has come to a close, and though this finale may not have packed the same wallop as the one last year, we still got a great two hours, as the missing pieces of how the Oceanic 6 got off the Island finally fall into place.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
He’s gone after the Lost Ark, emerged from a Temple of Doom, and even survived the Last Crusade. So now that Indiana Jones has dusted off his fedora for a fourth outing, how does he fare in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?
The Simpsons: All About Lisa
The Simpsons ends its 19th season by ripping off an old plotline from… themselves! Fortunately they threw in a great B-plot and enough random jokes to make it a decent season finale.
Smallville: Arctic
The intriguing Veritas storyline seemed destined to end this season of Smallville on a high note. Unfortunately, the season finale spends most of the episode building towards a climax that is far too short.
Lost: There’s No Place Like Home, Part 1
Lost’s two week, three hour epic finale began this week, and we get further glimpses of the Oceanic Six adjusting to life back home. Though how the Six get off the Island (and the rest don’t) is still up for debate.
The Simpsons: Mona Leaves-a
Glenn Close returns in her final performance as Grandma Simpson. The show, no stranger to mixing sentimentality with comedy, really drops the ball when it comes to dealing with the death of a Simpson family member.
Smallville: Quest
On the penultimate Smallville of the seventh season, Clark discovers the tougher side of being a Christ-like figure. Meanwhile Lex plays detective as he searches for the way he can control the Traveler at any cost.
Lost: Cabin Fever
Lost gives us an old-fashioned straight flashback this week, but it leaves a little to be desired, as the secret origins of John Locke retread some familiar territory. Meanwhile, things on the freighter get really ugly really fast.
The Simpsons: Any Given Sundance
The Simpsons go to a film festival in Sundance. Wait, didn’t they used to have one in Springfield, with that Critic guy?
Smallville: Apocalypse
Smallville gets the “What if?” treatment in this imagining of a world without Clark Kent. Lana and Chloe are happy, which is a plus, but the apocalypse is imminent, which is bad.
Lost: Something Nice Back Home
The first Jack flash-forward of the season features Four members of the Oceanic Six, and post-rescue life proves to be harder than they hoped.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Forgetting Sarah Marshall is another modern comedy classic, It’s billed as the “ultimate romantic disaster movie,” but does Jason Segel’s opus live up to the hype? In a word: yes
The Simpsons: Apocalypse Cow
Over the years, the Simpsons have had more than their share of animals, from Stampy the elephant to Spiderpig, who, coincidentally, makes a cameo appearance in this episode. This week, Bart raised and grew attached to a cow.
Lost: The Shape of Things to Come
Ben gets his first flash-forward, and the nature of his battle with Widmore becomes much clearer, and more disturbing. This episode features plenty of carnage and great new questions about what is happening on the Island.
Smallville: Sleeper
Smallville follows up one of its strongest and darkest episodes in years with an hour of Jimmy playing a secret agent man. Clark and Lex make cameo appearances.
South Park: Super Fun Time
The first half of South Park’s lackluster twelfth season ends on a strong note, as Mr. Garrison’s class is held hostage by robbers while Cartman and Butters sneak off to a nearby arcade. Hilarity ensues.
Smallville: Descent
Wow. This was, hands down, one of the best episodes of Smallville in recent memory. Descent was a perfectly appropriate title, as Lex became totally, fully, and completely evil in this episode, no redemption and no return
South Park: Over Logging
Another week, another lackluster South Park. Man, this is killing me. I have long argued that South Park is one of the most consistently funny shows on the air, but this season has seen a drastic decline in the number of laughs.
South Park: Eek! a Penis
For a show that prides itself on staying current, last night’s episode was full of pretty dated references. Which might not have been such a big deal, if the show was able to mine those old movies/news stories for good jokes.
South Park: Canada on Strike
There is absolutely no subtlety involved in this episode, from the initials of the World Canadian Bureau mysteriously being WGA, to the Canadians demanding more money from the internet.
The Simpsons: Smoke on the Daughter
Smoke on the Daughter began for me as many Simpsons episodes of late have, with me wondering aloud, “Hey, haven’t they done this before?” Marge pining for the things she never got a chance to do and Lisa discovering a new talent.
Smallville: Veritas
One thing that has frustrated me with Smallville over the years is that the show tends to leave a lot of loose ends dangling. Instead, this story arc seems designed to resolve some long unanswered questions.
South Park: Major Boobage
Finally! After griping and complaining about South Park not being at the top of its game this season, the show strikes back with its third episode. This week, the kids are told about all kinds of easy ways for them to get high.
Jericho’s Gone, And I’m OK With It
A good show with an amazing concept, most shows like 24 have our heroes trying to prevent a terrorist attack, Jericho began with one, and focused (mainly) on the aftermath, as told through the eyes of a small Kansas town.
South Park: Britney’s New Look
The lampooning of our culture’s obsession with celebrities, and Britney Spears in particular, is certainly fertile ground for South Park. This part of the show is also handled very well, and the jokes made here were very funny.
South Park: Tonsil Trouble
This is dangerous territory for the show here, and they know it. Playing for laughs, a young boy who has accidentally contracted a deadly disease would be totally off-limits for 99% of TV shows out there, which makes it prime fodder for South Park.
